A 10-year-old girl was found dead under mysterious circumstances at Bhawanipur in Kolkata triggering protest by locals. The body of the child was found from an almirah in their residence of the child located at Vidyasagar Colony under Alipore police station.
The mother of the deceased child was the sister of Sanjay Roy who has been convicted with life imprisonment for rape and murder of a doctor at city’s R.G. Kar Medical College and Hospital in August 2024.
After the news of the death of the girl spread in the locality, the locals blamed the parents for the death and attacked them. Police have taken the deceased child’s father and stepmother to the police station for questioning in connection with the death.
Despite being attacked by neighbours in the afternoon, the stepmother claimed that she did not kill her stepdaughter. She said that she did not see her stepdaughter when she returned home last Monday night. Later, she found her daughter’s body.
The agitated neighbours claimed that the father used to beat the old mother. He also used to torture his daughter in the name of discipline, they said. According to reports the father works as a security guard while the mother is engaged as a civic police volunteer. Sanjay Roy was also engaged as a civic police volunteer when he committed the horrific crime.
