On day one, Semmozhi Poonga attracts large number of people

The Semmozhi Poonga in Coimbatore attracted scores of visitors from Thursday morning and the number kept soaring till evening.

The Semmozhi poonga was inaugurated by Chief Minister M.K. Stalin in November. However, people were not allowed as some works were to be carried out. After the works were completed, it was formally opened on Thursday. The morning witnessed a few visitors and the number started to increase later.

The Semmozhi Poonga has the ability to generate 80,000 tonne oxygen and absorb 1.50 lakh carbon-di-oxide, says Rupmathi Anand, the architect behind the park.

Corporation Commissioner M. Sivaguru Prabhakaran said there would not be any let down in maintenance and upkeep of the park, as separate staff have been earmarked for watering the plants, and maintenance of the building and drinking water. Two Horticulture Department officials have been deployed and the Corporation has written to the State government seeking deployment of two more horticulture staff.

The Semmozhi Poonga will be open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. on all days

The entry fee for adults is ₹15 and for children ₹5.
