Over 100 families still in Signature Apartments as evacuation deadline looms

With the October 12 deadline to vacate the unsafe Signature View Apartments (SVA) in Mukherjee Nagar looming, over 100 families are still living in the complex even as civic agencies prepare to cut essential services.

Out of 336 families, about 230 have moved out, including 32 who vacated after Dasara, according to the SVA Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA). “Some of the remaining 106 are planning to do so over the weekend.

Many residents are still searching for alternative housing. Some want the deadline to be extended till Deepavali or Chhath Puja to give them adequate time,” said Gaurav Pandey, secretary of the RWA.

The Deputy Commissioner of the MCD, along with officials from the Delhi Jal Board, Tata Power, and the Delhi police, have decided that water, power, and other services will be discontinued from October 13 for those who remain.
