Passenger commends Railways for swift action in recovering lost watch


A passenger who accidentally left his wristwatch in the restroom of a Vande Bharat Express train has praised the Railways and Railway Protection Force (RPF) for their quick and coordinated efforts in recovering the lost item within an hour.

Guru Bruno, a neurosurgeon, who travelled by Vande Bharat Express and reached Chennai Egmore around 11 p.m. on Friday, realised after reaching home that he had forgotten his wristwatch inside the train’s restroom.

At 12:28 a.m., he immediately lodged a complaint through the RailMadad website, providing his PNR number, coach, and seat details, along with a brief description of the incident. Within minutes, at 12:31 a.m., he received a confirmation call from the Railway Helpline, followed by an SMS at 12:34 a.m. acknowledging the complaint. By 12:49 a.m., officials from the RPF informed him that the train had already moved to the yard and that a search operation was initiated.

At 1:12 a.m., the passenger received WhatsApp photos of a wristwatch, and just a minute later, at 1:13 a.m., the RPF called again to confirm that the recovered watch belonged to him.

Expressing his appreciation, the passenger said, “This is amazing work from all concerned. To be frank, this is not even a complaint — there was nothing wrong on the part of the Railways. It was entirely my mistake to leave the watch behind.” He went to the station, gave a letter requesting the watch, xerox copies of the ticket, Aadhaar and got back his watch after signing the register.
