Petrol bombs hurled near Thatchanallur police station and check post; police launch hunt


Unidentified persons riding two-wheelers hurled petrol bombs near Thatchanallur police station and Thatchanallur check post in Tirunelveli in daylight on Sunday.

Following the incident, Thatchanallur police rushed to the scene and launched an investigation. They are also in search of suspects who hurled petrol bombs by reviewing footage from nearby surveillance cameras.

Sources from the police department said, on Saturday, while on a patrol Thatchanallur police spotted individuals consuming alcohol in open place. Upon seeing the police they attempted to flee. Two of them were caught by police. They were identified as Hariharan from Oorudaiyan Kudiyiruppu and Ajith Kumar from Rajavallipuram. The police registered a case and seized weapons from them.

It is suspected that associates of the arrested individuals may have hurled the petrol bombs before fleeing.

Tirunelveli city police have increased security in key areas and are continuing the search.
