The meeting between Saurabh Gaur, Principal Secretary, Health, Medical Education and Family Welfare, and representatives of the A.P. Primary Health Centres’ Doctors’ Association on October 17 (Friday) remained inconclusive as the doctors decided to continue their strike.

As per information, the Principal Secretary had reiterated that 20% of seats would be allocated for the PHC doctors in the clinical branches of PG medical courses.

“There is no progress in our talks, as nothing has been said about our demand for a fixed 15% quota in the clinical branches for the next three years. The Principal Secretary has informed us that a meeting will be held in November to discuss the same. The previous year, too, the government made similar promises and went back on its word,” said association treasurer Vinod Kumar.

The government had, at the beginning of the strike, agreed to fix 15% quota for three years, but it was not keeping its statement, he alleged. “How can we be assured that the government will stick to its promises,” questioned Dr. Vinod Kumar.

Relay hunger strike

Since the talks stalled once again, the doctors plan to organise 24-hour relay hunger strikes. The protests would continue even on Deepavali, the association members said.
