Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK) founder S. Ramadoss on Sunday said that the party will organise demonstrations across Tamil Nadu on December 12, highlighting the need to conduct a caste census and to implement the 10.5% internal reservation for the Vanniyars within the MBC category by the State government.

Addressing party cadres at a meeting here, Mr. Ramadoss said that the caste census will help to assess the growth of several communities in the State in terms of socio-economic factors. Accordingly, welfare schemes and government initiatives can be designed for a section of society that needs to be uplifted socially and economically. “The fight for caste census is not for PMK alone but for all 234 castes that exist in Tamil Nadu. The caste census will benefit all communities in the State,” he said.

“The party will decide on an alliance for the 2026 assembly polls in December. Party cadres need not worry about other issues as they will be taken care of by the party leadership. Instead, they should work to strengthen the party at the grassroots level and bring more voters, especially women and youth, into the party fold. It will help the PMK win more assembly seats in the next year’s polls,” he said.

The PMK leader said that voters, especially in rural areas, should cast their votes on the basis of the merit of the candidates who contest in the elections. They should resist taking cash to cast their votes. It will help to provide good governance by the elected representatives, he said.
