The Police Department has taken steps to install Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) to optimise traffic flow, improve road safety and reduce congestion in Yadgir district.
The State government, through the Commissioner of Traffic and Road Safety, has released ₹2.40 crore to install ITMS across the district and a tender will be floated for the purpose.
Superintendent of Police Pruthvik Shankar shared this information with the media here on Saturday.
“It has been planned to install ITMS in Yadgir city, Shahapur city, Shorapur city, Bheemarayanagudi and other important places. A sum of ₹25 lakh is being spent to install each ITMS,” he said.
“The ITMS, which is an advanced system that uses artificial intelligence, sensors and data analytics to optimise traffic flow, improve road safety and reduce congestion, has high-definition CCTV cameras, an automatic number plate recognition (ANPR) system, a vehicle speed detection system (VSDS), cat eyes and digital signboards. These advanced technologies help ensure systematic traffic movement and detect traffic rule violations,” he said.
Mr. Shankar said that once the ITMS is installed, fine against violation if rules such as unorganised vehicle parking, rash riding, triple riding, wrong routes and overspeeding will be generated automatically and information for such violations will be sent through a message to the mobile number registered with the vehicle.
The department also planned to make district and inter-State borders safe by installing CCTV cameras at 14 check-posts that connect districts like Kalaburagi and Vijayapura in Karnataka and Narayanpet in neighbouring Telangana.
“The operation of CCTV cameras will help curb illegal activities across the border,” he added.
Stating that the police are now inspecting vehicles manually, Mr. Shankar also said that fine has been imposed on vehicles in 750 incidents in which riders were found to be violating rules, including using cell phones, triple riding and overspeeding.
“A sum of ₹500 fine is being imposed as fine for using cell phones and in three special cases of minors driving, a sum of ₹25,000 fine each has been imposed,” he added.
