Officials from the City Task Force (CTF) conducted surprise raids across the city on unauthorised firecracker manufacturing and storage units on Wednesday.
Based on credible information that certain individuals were illegally storing firecrackers the CTF teams led by Commissioner of Police, Shankabratha Bagchi, conducted surprise raids at places under New Port and Gajuwaka Police Station limits.
The CTF officials said that during the raids on an unauthorised storage unit at Kotta Dibbapalem, they seized firecrackers worth ₹40,000. Similarly, another team conducted that raid an illegal unit at High School Road, Gajuwaka seized firecrackers worth ₹1 lakh.
The seized materials were handed over to the respective police stations and cases were registered against two persons for allegedly possessing and storing firecrackers without valid licenses or permits.
Mr Bagchi in a release said: “Strict legal action will be taken against those violating safety and licensing regulations while storing, setting up stalls, or selling fireworks, without permissions.” He urged people to inform the police if they come across any unauthorised storage of firecrackers in their locality and to contact 100/112 or the Commissioner of Police directly at 7995095799. The police assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
