Probe on as transgender person found murdered in Vanagaram


A 36-year-old transgender person was found murdered inside a makeshift tent off the Vanagaram service road in Chennai on Saturday.

The victim was identified as Pandi alias Shilpa, 36, a resident of Chettiyar Agaram near Maduravoyal. Police said Shilpa was engaged in sex work and frequently visited the Vanagaram service road area.

According to preliminary investigations, Shilpa was last seen on the service road on Friday night. Police suspect that unknown persons took her to a nearby tin shed in the Indira Nagar locality, where she was assaulted and killed. Her body was found lying in a pool of blood inside the makeshift structure on Saturday morning.

Local residents who noticed the body alerted the Vanagaram police. A police team rushed to the spot, conducted a preliminary inspection, and sent the body to the Government Kilpauk Medical College Hospital for a post-mortem.

The Vanagaram police have registered a case and launched an investigation. Officers are examining CCTV footage from the service road and surrounding areas to identify those involved. Further inquiries are under way to determine the motive behind the murder.
