Demanding immediate repair of badly damaged roads and supply of protected drinking water, petitions were submitted to Mayor G. Ramakrishnan during the weekly grievance redress meeting on Tuesday.
Demanding supply of protected drinking water to the residents, president of ‘Makkalatchi Iyakkam’ N. Kanda Murugan submitted a petition to the Mayor, in which he had criticised the urban civic body of supplying contaminated water.
Carrying impure water in a bottle, he said the ‘Smart City’ could not supply protected drinking water to the residents regularly despite collecting property, water and professional taxes from them.
A. Murugan of DMK’s farmers’ wing from Thatchananallur gave another embarrassing moment to the Corporation officials when he submitted a petition seeking repair of the “dangerously damaged death trap roads” in his area.
“The roads connecting Gandhi statue in Thatchanallur and Vannerpettai Bypass Road junction and Santhimariththamman Temple junction and Vaikkal Palam and the road behind Santhimariththamman Temple and Anjaneyar Temple are death traps as the Corporation did not take any steps to repair them. We are witness to pedestrians and bike riders falling on these roads and sustaining bleeding injuries every day. The Corporation should at least repair these roads by filling up the potholes,” said Mr. Murugan.
He also appealed to the Corporation to lay paver blocks in Krishnankovil Street in Thatchanallur.
