A week after Kamal Haasan confirmed his much-talked about collaboration with Rajinikanth, the superstar has opened up on the highly-anticipated project. Rajinikanth said that he will soon team up with Kamal Haasan’s Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) and Red Giant Movies.

Recently, at the NEXA SIIMA Awards 2025, Kamal Haasan had said that he is reuniting with Rajinikanth after 46 years in a movie. “We were united long ago, but chose to remain apart because they kept splitting a biscuit and giving us only half each. We wanted a full biscuit each, and we got it and relished it well. Now we are content with just half a biscuit again, so we have come together.”

Offering fans further excitement, Rajinikanth told reporters on September 17, 2025 (Wednesday) that the project is currently in the planning stage. “My next movie will be with RKFI and Red Giant. The director hasn’t been fixed. Kamal and I wish to act together again,” he told reporters at Chennai airport.

“The film will get rolling if we lock a good script. We are planning towards it, but hope we find a good story,” he added. The veteran star is currently filming for Jailer 2, directed by Nelson Dilipkumar. The film is a sequel to the 2023 blockbuster. The actor was last seen in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s action drama Coolie, which also featured Akkineni Nagarjuna, Upendra, Sathyaraj, Aamir Khan, Shoubin Shahir and Shruti Haasan.

While other details regarding the project aren’t available at the moment, speculations are rife that filmmaker Lokesh Kanagaraj, who helmed Rajinikanth in his latest film Coolie and Kamal Haasan in 2022’s Vikram, is directing the film.

Kamal Haasan and Rajinikanth, both of whom started their journey as lead actors in the 1970s under their mentor, the late legendary K Balachander, starred together in innumerable films. Their last work together was Alavuddinum Athbutha Vilakkum (1979).
