One of Bollywood’s most celebrated romantic dramas, the Ram Gopal Varma directorial Rangeela, is all set to make a spectacular comeback on the big screen — this time in a breathtaking 4K HD format. Nearly three decades after its original release in 1995, the film will once again transport audiences into the colourful world of dreams, ambition, and love that made it an unforgettable cinematic experience.

Confirming the re-release, filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma said in an official statement released to the media, “‘Rangeela embodied the spirit of aspiration, showing that ordinary people can also dare to dream big. Its success demonstrated that rule-breaking cinema is often the most unforgettable.”
The 4K re-release is part of Ultra Media’s ‘Ultra Rewind’ initiative, which aims to restore and reintroduce timeless Indian films to a new generation with modern technology. Sushilkumar Agrawal, CEO of Ultra Media, also shared in the same statement, “For many, Rangeela is a nostalgic trip back to the golden era of Bollywood. With Ultra Rewind, we’re bringing this beloved classic to modern audiences in a stunning 4K format, ensuring that its timeless charm continues to mesmerise audiences for years to come.”
Rangeela, starring Aamir Khan, Urmila Matondkar, and Jackie Shroff, marked a turning point in 1990s Hindi cinema. The film told the story of Mili, an ambitious dancer who dreams of becoming a film star, and Munna, her street-smart best friend who secretly loves her. Set against Mumbai’s bustling film industry backdrop, the movie explored ambition, unspoken love, and self-discovery — themes that continue to resonate with audiences even today.
