Ramanathapuram and Sivaganga district revenue offices wore a deserted look on Wednesday after revenue officials started a 48-hour-strike, demanding relief from work pressure caused by insufficient workforce and mission plans.
The Tamil Nadu Revenue Department Officials’ Association announced the strike, demanding a halt to the ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ programme, which burdened them in several ways.
The protesters claimed that the senior officials forced them to conduct too many camps within a short period of time.
Palani Kumar, a TNROA functionary in Ramanathapuram, said their key demands included filling office assistant positions that had been vacant for more than three years, limiting the ‘Ungaludan Stalin’ camps to two per week, providing sufficient time to resolve applications and allocating additional funds for the programme and increasing involvement of volunteers, among others.
TNROA functionaries staged a protest outside the Collector office. In Sivaganga district, the protest was led by district vice-president Balamurugan along with district secretary Krishnakumar.
Revenue officials held similar strike in Dindigul and Theni districts.
