Anna Salai in Pammal is an arterial road linking the Pallavaram – Kundrathur Main Road with Thiruneermalai Main Road. The road connects several residential localities of Pammal, including Sankar Nagar. However, for the past few months the residents are facing severe hardships as the road has been dug up for the undergroundsewerage project carried out by the Tambaram Corporation.

With a major portion of the road completely blocked to traffic, hundreds of motorists are facing severe hardship to reach the GST Road via Kundrathur Main Road. Commuters are forced to take a detour through other smaller streets which are also in bad shape because of poor restoration work carried out by the contractor, the residents added.

Anna Salai has been dug up at several places and mounds of debris are dumped on the road causing severe constraints for the residents who find it difficult even to walk.

T. Shanmugam, a resident of Krishna Nagar in Pammal, complained that the sewerage work has been dragging on for more than two years despite the assurance that it would be completed early. Anna Salai is in shambles and motorists, especially parents dropping children in schools are facing severe hardships.

Meanwhile, Sankar Nagar residents heaved a sigh of relief after the officials of Tambaram Corporation informed that sewerage work has been completed and restoration work would be carried out. However, the residents find the restoration works are being carried out in a poor manner.

Shankar, a resident of 41st Street, said dumping of construction debris in the name of restoration work has further added to the problems of the residents, particularly during rainy days.

A senior official of the Tambaram Corporation said both cement roads and macadam roads are being paved in phases where the sewerage work was completed. Anna Salai would soon be restored, the official assured.
