Chairperson of V.O. Chidambaranar Port Authority, Thoothukudi, Susanta Kumar Purohit on Wednesday highlighted the performance and achievements of the port, major completed projects, ongoing projects, and upcoming projects and the green initiatives taken up at the port.
Addressing journalists in Madurai as part of the roadshow for the India Maritime Week 2025, Mr. Purohit said the event scheduled to be held in Mumbai from October 27 to 31 will be focusing on various aspects such as green shipping, digitisation, blue economy, maritime heritage and maritime corridors.
Some of the major complete projects at the port were link conveyor from coal jetty-I to port coal stack yard, NCB-3 dredging and expansion of turning circle, North Cargo Berth – III and conversion of Berth 9 into container terminal, he said.
The major ongoing projects were construction of Berth – 10 (multi cargo), laying of four lane road from the Port’s point of supply to the Tuticorin Thermal Power Station ‘roundtana’, establishment of Maritime Heritage Museum, direct port entry facility, widening of port’s entrance channel and mechanisation of NCB 3, he said.
The major upcoming projects included the outer harbour development project, Mr. Purohit added.
Highlighting the green initiatives undertaken at the port, he said the Green Hydrogen Pilot Project Plant was commissioned to power streetlights and E-car charging facilities. A rooftop solar power plant was also installed. The upcoming green initiatives included 6 MW wind farm, Green methanol Bunkering and Refueling facility and Green Methanol Production, he said. Deputy Chairperson Rajesh Soundararajan and others were present.
