Attempted robberies at two adjacent ATM centres on E.V.N. Road in the city were foiled after the alarm systems were triggered, forcing the suspects to flee in the early hours of Monday (January 12, 2026).

According to the police, unidentified persons broke into the Karnataka Bank ATM and a nearby State Bank of India ATM, both of which operate without night security guards, and attempted to smash the machines with stones to steal cash. However, the alarms went off, prompting the suspects to abandon the attempt and escape without taking any money.

Following the alarm, bank officials alerted the police. Erode Town and Erode South police rushed to the spot and found the ATM machines damaged.

The police collected CCTV footage and forensic evidence from the premises. Preliminary inquiries revealed that no cash was stolen, as the alarms were activated in time, saving thousands of rupees kept in the two ATMs.
