
The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Jolarpet railway station in Tirupattur on Wednesday handed over an unclaimed bag that contained 1.3 kg of ancestral silver ornaments and two mobile phones worth ₹2.5 lakh from the Chennai-Jolarpettai Express train to its owners.

The Railway Protection Force (RPF) at Jolarpet railway station in Tirupattur on Wednesday handed over an unclaimed bag that contained 1.3 kg of ancestral silver ornaments and two mobile phones worth ₹2.5 lakh from Chennai-Jolarpettai Express train to its owners.
Police said that it was during a routine check of an empty train rake at the railway station, a RPF team found an unclaimed shoulder bag from the general coach of the express train. The bag contained silver items and mobile phones. Initial inquiry revealed that a Chennai-based passenger, S. Boopalan, complained to the RPF outpost at the railway station that he missed the bag in the train. After verification of his travel details and ID proof, Nikhil Kumar Gupta, Inspector, RPF (Jolarpet) returned the valuables to the passenger.
During investigation, police found the passenger had brought the items for his marriage rituals in Tirupattur recently. The passenger expressed gratitude to the RPF team for their honesty and prompt action in securing and restoring their valuables, police said.
