In a tragic incident, a family of three including the grand parents and their grand daughter died in a road accident, when a speeding sand laden lorry hit against them on Sunday in Dindigul district.
Police said that a tipper lorry from Veeruveedu near Batlagundu was proceeding at a break-neck speed. Kathavarayan, 65, his wife Jothi, 60, and her grand daughter identified as Achiammal, 9, and Achipandi, 9, were travelling on the bike after purchasing groceries from a near by shop.
It is said that the lorry hit at the two-wheeler and in the impact all the four were thrown off the vehicle. Both Kathavarayan and Achiammal died on the spot, while Jothi died on the way to hospital. The grandson Achipandi is undergoing treatment at the Batlagundu Government Hospital.
Vilampatti police Inspector Parimala and SI Vani and team rushed to the spot and sent the two bodies to the GH for post-mortem. The police were on the look out for the lorry driver. A case has been registered.
