Pongal gift hampers worth ₹30 lakh were distributed to more than 6,500 families of 10 villages in Thanjavur, Tiruchi and Mayiladuthurai districts by SASTRA Deemed University.
According to a SASTRA release, the gift hampers, each containing 5 kg of raw rice, 1 kg each of dhal and jaggery, were distributed to people from marginalised sections and those needing special assistance for the 26th year.
The hampers were distributed by Chancellor R. Sethuraman, Dean, Planning and Development, S. Swaminathan at Thirumalaisamudhram, Monnaiyampatti, Kuruvadipatti, Nattani and Vallampudur of Thanjavur District, Narikuravas Colony at Devarayaneri of Tiruchi district, Kottaiyur, Nemmeli and Katchikattu villages in Kumbakonam taluk and Semangalam of Mayiladuthurai.
