As part of the security arrangements for Tyagi Immanuel Sekaran death anniversary to be observed on September 11, Ramanathapuram district Superintendent of Police P. G. Chandeesh said that security has been beefed up, vehicular movements controlled and CCTVs were fixed on key locations.

More than 6,000 police personnel from other districts and 1,500 from the Ramanathapuram police force were deployed in Paramakudi and other locations in the district, he added.

“The police personnel would be deployed in their respective locations a day before to allow them to get familiarised with the places around,” he noted.

An overall strength of 24 SPs and 32 ADSPs would be monitoring and organising the event, Mr. Chandeesh informed.

Speaking about vehicular restrictions imposed on the day of the event, he said, as per the District Collector’s order no two wheelers would be allowed to enter the area designated for the event and those vehicles which are present at the location would be seized.

Similarly, as the event was one of the most sensitive public events in the State, no T-board or yellow board vehicles would be allowed. “Only private vehicles with closed roofs would be allowed to enter the permitted area,” he noted.

The area surrounding the venue, in addition to being monitored by more than 500 CCTVs, would also be observed through 38 check posts which have been further split into 600 points, he added.

Unlike previous times, the number of parking spaces for the event has been increased to three to facilitate free movement and parking of vehicles arriving, Mr. Chandeesh stated.

Though drones would be usually deployed to record movements, this year, he noted that live feed from the drones would be displayed in the control room to enhance policing in sensitive spots.

In addition, about 32 mobile patrols and 15 bomb disposal squads were also on board.

Mr. Chandeesh appealed to the public and political leaders to adhere to the rules and restrictions to ensure a smooth and safety anniversary event.
