Seven persons allegedly involved in drug trafficking were arrested by the Anti-Narcotics Squad on Tuesday while trying to bring in a huge quantity of psychotropic substances into the city via the Ghazipur border.
Police recovered around 121.58 kg of marijuana and 600 grams of heroin, worth over ₹1.60 crore, from their possession.
The accused were identified as Naveel, 23, Talib, 30, Nadir Khan, 29, Mohd. Amaan, 50, Areeb, 26, Arsu, 26, and Tarakki, 30. A case has been registered under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and also the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, and all the accused are in police custody.
“They turned to drug peddling for quick money and sourced drugs from a contact in Uttar Pradesh,” said Abhishek Dhania, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East Zone).
