Seventeen people were arrested in Nalgonda district in connection with the illegal sale and consumption of opioid-based tablets, including Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus and Tramadol (Ultra King).
The arrests came after a joint operation by the Telangana Anti-Narcotics Bureau’s EAGLE Force, Nalgonda Police, and the Drug Control Administration, which uncovered a network involved in the unauthorised trade of prescription drugs.
On Monday, officials conducted vehicle checks near Munugode Road in Nalgonda and apprehended Md. Zabinulla, 35, son of Hafeezulla, a fridge mechanic from Nalgonda, who was carrying narcotic tablets on a two-wheeler. Zabinulla admitted being addicted to Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus and revealed that he was illegally purchasing and reselling the tablets for three months. He obtained each strip of eight tablets for ₹100 from Venkata Ramana Medical Store in Thorrur, Mahabubabad district, and sold them locally for ₹200 per strip.
Investigation revealed that the medical store, owned by Daram Krishna Sai, 30, was selling Schedule H1 drugs without valid prescriptions or maintaining statutory records, in violation of the NDPS Act and Drug Control Rules. The Drug Inspector seized the shop, along with stock and records, and cancelled its licence.
The arrested persons were identified as Md. Zabinulla, 35, Daram Krishna Sai, 30, supplier, and consumers Junaid, 26, Ahmed Abdul Hafeez, 41, Shaik Owaiz, 31, Shaik Afroz, 26, Md. Javid, Mazid, Ameer, Ubed, Salman, Yunus, Noman, Ashar, Pavan Kumar, Shaabaz, and Wasim, who was both a consumer and a peddler.
The seized items include 2,400 Spasmo-Proxyvon Plus tablets, 345 Tramadol Ultra King tablets, two mobile phones, and one motorcycle. All seized items and those arrested were handed over to Nalgonda I Town Police Station, and a case was registered under Sections 22(C), 27(a), and 29 of the NDPS Act (Cr. No. 292/2025).
Officials said all consumers are being referred to a de-addiction centre under Section 64A of the NDPS Act, which grants immunity from prosecution to addicts voluntarily undergoing treatment. Families of the users are being informed and counselled to support recovery and prevent relapse.
