Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced on Sunday that three welfare projects dedicated to visually impaired students, intellectually disabled individuals, and senior citizens will be inaugurated on Wednesday by Home Minister Amit Shah to celebrate Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 75th birthday.
Ms. Gupta said the projects, part of the Seva Pakhwada (fortnight of service) initiative, reflect the foresight of the governmentand its resolve that no section of society should be left behind. The projects – Atal Drishti Girls’ Hostel for visually impaired students, the Atal Asha Home for intellectually disabled persons, and the Savitribai Phule Senior Citizens’ Home – will make the Capital “inclusive, sensitive, and a ‘Viksit Delhi’,” she said.
Providing details about the hostel, Ms. Gupta stated that it has been constructed near Timarpur, close to the University of Delhi, for visually impaired girls pursuing higher education.
Empowering lives
Constructed at a cost of ₹13.42 crore, it can house 96 students and has been specially designed with barrier-free infrastructure, support staff, and modern facilities that promote both academic and personal development. “The hostel will bridge the gap of secure accommodation and enable young women to study with dignity, independence, and confidence,” the CM said.
The Atal Asha Home in Narela, built at a cost of ₹40.60 crore, has a capacity to accommodate 220 residents and is envisioned as a model facility for individuals with intellectual disabilities in the country. “This is not merely a residential facility but a centre for rehabilitation, care, and training that will empower individuals to lead independent and dignified lives,” Ms. Gupta noted.
Elderly care
Similarly, the Savitribai Phule Senior Citizens’ Home in Paschim Vihar, constructed at a cost of ₹10.64 crore, will house 96 residents. Equipped with medical facilities, nutritious meals, safe accommodation, and recreational activities, the home aims to provide comfort, care, and dignity to the elderly. Mr. Shah is also expected to launch other projects, including 101 Ayushman Arogya Mandirs, five hospital blocks, and 150 dialysis centres. The Delhi government will also organise a walk at Kartavya Path.
