During a routine security check at Mumbai airport, Kapur was pleasantly surprised when a security officer began humming a tune from Masoom — sparking a nostalgic and heartfelt exchange that has since gone viral.

“You’re humming a tune from my film,” Kapur told the officer, to which he responded with a smile, “I know, Sir. It’s from Masoom. Beautiful film. They don’t make films like that anymore.” Intrigued, the filmmaker asked what he meant, and the officer’s reply struck a chord: “They don’t make films from the heart anymore. The stories don’t mean anything now. The songs are meaningless.”
Moments later, another passenger joined in, humming another Masoom melody and saying, “This one’s my favourite. When are you making Masoom 2?” Kapur smiled and replied, “Soon. How do you know about it?” “Everyone knows, it’s all over the media, Sir. Jaldi banaiye, please (Sir. Make it soon, please)!” came the enthusiastic response.
The brief yet emotional encounter left Kapur reflective about how Masoom continues to resonate deeply with audiences even after four decades. For many, the film — starring Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi, and Jugal Hansraj — remains a benchmark in heartfelt storytelling, exploring innocence, love, and forgiveness through tender simplicity and timeless music composed by R.D.
