A 65-year-old man from Sivaganga district was booked for forgery and was booked under the provisions of Passport Act for getting a second passport with fake date of birth on Saturday.
According to police, the Airport Immigration officials found that the passport of the man from Puthupatti was suspicious when he tried to board a flight to Dubai.
During interrogation, the man claimed that he had worked in Qatar, Saudi Arabia and Dubai for 25 years in the past.
However, as his passport had no records of his foreign visits he was further grilled.
Then, the man produced his old passport.
The accused claimed that he had returned to India in 2018 due to ill health and stayed back in his native place.
When he tried to find new jobs abroad, he could not get one as he was well past 50 years. Hence, he got another passport with a forged date of birth in 2022.
While he was born in 1961, he had falsely mentioned that his year of birth was 1976.
Based on the complaint lodged by the Immigration Officer, Avaniyapuram police have booked a case against the accused.
