Six persons were injured when a private tourist van carrying a family overturned near Vijayamangalam in Perundurai taluk here on Friday (January 2, 2025).
According to the police, the family was travelling from Salem to Pollachi to attend a baby shower ceremony. The accident occurred at the Vaipadi junction on the Salem-Coimbatore National Highway when the van driver attempted to overtake a lorry. In the process, the van reportedly brushed against the lorry, causing the driver to lose control and the vehicle to overturn.
Of the 15 occupants in the van, six sustained injuries. Passersby rushed to their aid and shifted the injured to the Government Erode Medical College and Hospital at Perundurai, where they are undergoing treatment. Perundurai police are investigating the incident.
