Software upgrade: BESCOM to issue average consumption-based bills

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) has announced that electricity bills for consumers under the Greater Bengaluru Area (GBA) will be generated based on the average consumption of the past three months, owing to an ongoing software upgrade.

The company’s IT department is currently upgrading its billing system to improve efficiency and streamline operations, according to a release by BESCOM on Tuesday. As a result, meter readers will not be carrying out physical meter readings across the GBA between October 1 and 15. Instead, consumers will receive bills calculated using their average consumption from the last three billing cycles, release stated.

BESCOM has assured that this temporary measure will not affect the benefits availed under the State government’s Gruha Jyothi scheme, which provides up to 200 units of free power for eligible households.

Consumers can continue to make payments as usual through the BESCOM Mitra mobile application, UPI platforms, or by visiting their respective sub-division offices.

Officials clarified that normal meter reading operations will resume after October 15 once the system upgrade is complete.
