Cyclone ‘Montha’ impact was seen across the districts of South Coastal Andhra Pradesh with strong winds and rain in several places from Monday (October 27, 2025) morning. The cyclone was approaching the coast at a speed of 18 kmph in the last six hours, and it is currently 520 km from Chennai, 570 km from Kakinada, and 600 km from Visakhapatnam.

“The cyclone is moving west and north-westwards, likely to intensify into a cyclonic storm by tomorrow (October 28, 2025) morning. Strong winds are gusting at 90-110 kmph along the coast,” said Prakhar Jain, Managing Director of the Andhra Pradesh State Disaster Management Authority (APSDMA), in a statement, urging the public to stay alert.

In the wake of the cyclone, the schools and colleges were given holidays for three days. The district administrations are prepared to face any situation. SPSR Nellore District Cyclone Special Officer Dr. N. Yuvraj conducted a review meeting with officials from Revenue, Medical and Health, Panchayat Raj, RWS (Rural Water Supply) and ICDS (Integrated Child Development Services Scheme) departments on the precautionary measures.

District Collector Himanshu Shukla also directed the officials to be very vigilant and take all necessary steps to prevent the damage caused by cyclone Montha. He said that an NDRF (National Disaster Response Force) team and an SDRF (State Disaster Response Force) team have been kept ready to rescue the people.

“A control room has been set up in the Collectorate to work around the clock to provide assistance to the people. People can call 0861-2331261, 7995576699 for help. About 42 sensitive villages and 166 habitations have been identified across nine coastal mandals in the district. 144 relief centers have been prepared to provide safe shelter to the people,” he informed.

Nellore SP Ajitha Vejendla personally inspected the condition of Manneru stream flowing along 23 villages from Lingasamudram to Karedu in Kandukur, and issued appropriate orders to the authorities. She alerted the police machinery to be more prepared in flood-affected and low-lying areas in the district.

Prakasam District Collector P. Rajababu has instructed the Control Room staff to remain alert and take appropriate action in the wake of Cyclone Montha. Along with Joint Collector R. Gopala Krishna, he visited the Control Room set up at the Collectorate, inspected the arrangements and inquired about the details from the staff of the concerned departments.

“The district police machinery is fully prepared to effectively deal with the cyclone situation and ensure the safety of the people without any loss of life,” said Prakasam SP V. Harshavardhan Raju. He held a review meeting with police officials on the measures to be taken to deal with the cyclone. He gave several key suggestions on cyclone relief measures and security arrangements.

He instructed the police personnel to answer every phone call from the public with utmost attention and respond immediately. He advised that the live feed coming from drone cameras should be checked from time to time and immediate action should be taken in areas where there are dangerous situations.

Tirupati District Collector Dr. S. Venkateswar has appealed to the public to stay alert and calm, but not believe in the rumours that are spreading panic about the cyclone on social media. He said, “The district administration is on alert to provide strict relief measures to prevent any loss of life or property due to the cyclone.”

“In addition to the Control Room at the Collectorate, Control Rooms have been set up in the Tirupati, Srikalahasti, Gudur and Sullurpeta RDO offices to work around the clock for emergency assistance information,” he said, advising the people of the district to be vigilant amid the possibility of heavy to very heavy rains in the district.
