The Sub- Registrar (In-charge), Tambaram, was caught by the officers of Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption (DVAC) on Thursday while she was receiving a bribe of ₹2 lakh from an applicant.
According to the DVAC, one Praveen Kumar of Nedungundram gave an application to register a property measuring 2400 square feet at the Sub- Registrar office, Tambaram. After looking into the documents, Revathi, Assistant, Sub-Registrar (In charge), Tambaram demanded a bribe of ₹10 lakh from the applicant. The applicant was forced to agree to pay ₹2 lakh at the time of registration and the remaining ₹8 lakh while receiving the registered documents. However, unwilling to pay the bribe, Praveen Kumar lodged a complaint with the DVAC.
The officers of DVAC organised a trap. As per demand, the applicant was about to hand over ₹2 lakh, Revathi instructed a document writer to receive the money. DVAC officers arrested Revathi and the document writer with the bribe amount.
