  • A third ‘Super Troopers’ movie is about to kick off production.
  • The Broken Lizard team is once more writing and starring.
  • Chace Crawford, Nat Faxon and Andrew Dismukes are joining the cast.

With the new ‘Naked Gun’ doing decent business at the box office, we’re seeing more comedies looking to appear on big screens following the laugh-heavy genre largely getting relegated to streaming.

And if cop comedies can work, then why not a new outing for ‘Super Troopers’? Searchlight Pictures thinks it could work, with the Broken Lizard troupe back for a third movie.

Joining the cast for this one? ‘The Way Way Back’s Nat Faxon, ‘The Boys’Chace Crawford and ‘Saturday Night Live’s Andrew Dismukes, with Brian Cox (who knows unserious people when he sees them) and Marisa Coughlan returning to their supporting roles.

‘Super Troopers’ follows five bored, occasionally high and always ineffective Vermont state troopers must prove their worth to the governor or lose their jobs. After stumbling on a drug ring, they plan to make a bust, but a rival police force is out to steal the glory.

The original ‘Super Troopers’ was released by what was then called Fox Searchlight in 2001 after being acquired at Sundance Film Festival.

Following its debut, the film then went on to win the Audience Award at the South by Southwest Film Festival. A sequel, in which the troopers tackled a border dispute between the US and Canada, was released in 2018.

No plot details for the third movie have yet been released, but you know it’ll include plenty of madness, running gags –– and it’s rumored to be subtitled ‘Winter Soldiers’.

Here’s what Searchlight President Matthew Greenfield had to say about the new movie:

“Broken Lizard has been part of the Searchlight family for over two decades, and we couldn’t be more thrilled for another entry in the ‘Super Troopers’ saga. ‘Super Troopers’ has a way of making the absurd feel inevitable, and we can’t wait to bring audiences along on another adventure with these characters who leave a trail of joy and laughter, wherever their patrols may take them.”

And this was Chandrasekhar, who is back to direct/co-write/co-star:

“Broken Lizard is excited to help bring the theatrical comedy back. To America, we say, ‘It’s mustache-growing time!’”

When will ‘Super Troopers 3’ be in theaters?

Searchlight Pictures has yet to specify a release date for the new movie.
