“Tamil Nadu holds the number one position in India in the field of medicine and healthcare,” said Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar.
Speaking at the breast cancer awareness programme held at Madurai Medical College here on Friday, he added that the State government was paying special attention to the medical sector by implementing exemplary schemes to improvise the progression achieved in the field.
Speaking about the role of diseases in human lives, he noted, “No one can prevent diseases in humans. At the time of our grandparents, there were no medicines for some diseases. Even though scientific research has led to the discovery of medicines for many diseases today, there is still a certain fear associated with treatment. We must come forward to overcome the fear and protect ourselves from the disease.”
Women, who play a major role in Indian families, around whom the families revolve, are the fulcrum of the society.
“Women who take up the responsibility to protect their families, must undergo regular medical examinations to protect themselves and their families,” Mr. Praveen said.
He stated that breast cancer could be cured 100% if detected in the early stages.
“The sooner it is detected, the better the chances of a cure. This assuring information should be shared and spread to the maximum level to completely prevent the disease,” he said.
Dean L. Arul Sundaresh Kumar presided over the event and M. Ramesh, Department of Surgical Oncology, coordinated the event.
To observe the Pink October month for breast cancer awareness, the new GRH building at Goripalayam was lit up in pink colour.
