Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M.K. Stalin on Tuesday (March 2, 2026) inaugurated a home for senior citizens established by the Arulmigu Devi Baliamman and Ilankaliamman Temple at Kolathur in Chennai at a cost of ₹11.88 crore.
The home is spread over 25,500 sqft and could accommodate 75 elderly citizens. Various amenities, facilities to provide physiotherapy, first aid, among others are available at this home. “TVS Motors is providing funds for the maintenance of the home which would accommodate those above 60 years of age and whose families could not afford their maintenance,” an official release said.

The Tamil Nadu government had in 2021 announced it would construct senior citizens home with accommodation and food facilities in three temples at Chennai, Tirunelveli and Palani, considering the destitute conditions of senior citizens, and to provide better living conditions to them in their old age. The Chief Minister had in May 2025 unveiled the foundation for the construction of these homes in Kolathur, Palani and Palayamkottai.
In another event on Tuesday (March 3, 2026), CM Stalin inaugurated a ‘Mudhalvar Padaippagam’ with a modern library constructed by the Chennai Metropolitan Development Authority (CMDA) in Ashok Nagar at a cost of ₹12.74 crore.

CM Stalin also virtually inaugurated nine Mudhalvar Padaippagams constructed by the CMDA at a total cost of ₹16.87 crore. Besides, he inaugurated sports infrastructure established by the Greater Chennai Corporation and school buildings at a total cost of ₹10.95 crore.
