The Rachakonda Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu has issued a city banishment notice to rowdy sheeter Kodudula Naveen Reddy (32), from Manneguda in Rangareddy district, ordering him to show cause within seven days as to why he should not be expelled from the Commissionerate limits for six months. The notice, issued under Section 26(1) of the Hyderabad City Police Act, 1348 Fasli, follows a detailed report submitted by the Adibatla Police Station on September 30.

Naveen, who runs a business and is the owner of the Mr. Tea and Mister Irani tea franchise chains, has a long criminal record, including cases of assault, attempt to murder, criminal intimidation, and rioting registered at Adibatla Police Station. Police said he has a history of creating fear among residents, who are often reluctant to file complaints against him. The order stated that his actions were detrimental to public peace and order, warranting his expulsion from the city limits.

The move comes nearly three years after Naveen made headlines for his dramatic abduction of a medico from her home in Turkayamjal in December 2022. The incident unfolded in broad daylight when he, then 26, stormed into the woman’s house with a mob of about 40 men, reportedly enraged that her family was preparing for her engagement.

According to police at the time, Naveen had first met the woman at a badminton academy, and the two were in a relationship before her parents intervened and asked her to end it. Upset by the rejection, he allegedly opened a branch of his tea chain right opposite her residence to keep watch over her. On learning about her engagement, he gathered a mob, barged into her house, ransacked furniture and vehicles, and kidnapped her, while her father, Damodar Reddy, was assaulted when he tried to stop them.

The kidnapping sparked outrage, with residents and the medico’s relatives staging protests and even demolishing the Mr. Tea outlet opposite her house. Police teams later tracked down Naveen and the medico on the same night and arrested him. The woman sent a message to her family shortly before the arrest, assuring them she was safe.

Rachakonda Police Commissioner Sudheer Babu said that the accused faces multiple charges and was known for his violent behaviour in the area. “He has a pattern of intimidation, and people are often scared to speak against him,” said the officer.

The banishment notice effectively restricts Naveen from entering the Rachakonda limits for six months, pending his response. Police said the action was taken to prevent further disturbances and to ensure public safety.
