
Former Vice President M. Venkaiah Naidu presented the awards at the 75th year celebrations of The Mylapore Academy.

Several persons were honoured with various awards at the 75th year celebrations of The Mylapore Academy at Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan here on Saturday.
M. Venkaiah Naidu, former Vice President of India, who presented the awards said, “India is growing fast to become the third largest economy in the world. I’m confident that in the coming years, it will become the second largest economy.”
He noted that by instituting these awards across such a wide range of fields, including arts, theatre, music, social activism, mental health, heritage, history and conservation, among others, The Mylapore Academy has affirmed the truth that, excellence manifests itself in many forms, and that society grows richer when all contributions are equally recognized.
The Dharmathma Dr. V. Vaidyasubramania Iyer Centenary Award of Excellence was presented to veteran Bharatanatyam exponents V.P. Dhananjayan and Shanta Dhananjayan. Kainkarya Sironmani Dr. S.V. Narasimhan Centenary Award of Excellence was given to Nalini Krishnan, executive secretary and co-founder of REACH, a non-profit organisation. The Kainkarya Sironmani Seva Ratna Dr. N.C. Raghavachari Centenary Award of Excellence went to historian V Sriram. Dr. Sarojini Varadappan Centenary Award of Excellence was presented to Vandana Gopikumar, co-founder of The Banyan, a Chennai-based NGO.
Dr. R. Viswanathan Dental Surgeon Endowment Award of Excellence was given to K. Ranganathan, head of the department of Oral Pathology, Ragas Dental College and Hospital. Gurubaktha Sironmani Dr. V. Vaidyasubramania Iyer Endowment Award of Excellence went to religious scholars Damal S. Ramakrishnan and Perundevi. S.T. Vanchinathan Award for person caring for animal welfare was given to animal welfare activist Sreepriya Iyer. Many other individuals and institutions too were honoured at the event.
T.S. Tirumurti, former Ambassador and Permanent Representative of India to the United Nations, New York, said, The Mylapore Academy has been a pioneer in social and community service long before this concept became a reality elsewhere.
A souvenir was also released during the occasion. S. Jagadeesan, former Judge, Madras High Court and president of The Mylapore Academy, K.J. Suriyanarayanan, secretary of The Mylapore Academy, Mr. Sriram and Industrialist Nalli Kuppuswami Chetti also spoke at the event.
