Summer may be over, but The Summer I Turned Pretty just dropped it’s long-awaited finale on September 17 — and the internet is losing it. After three seasons of longing, heartbreak, and a love triangle that kept us all on edge, Belly’s story has finally come to a close. Here’s what happened in the finale (and why fans can’t stop talking about it).
The finale picks up with Belly living in Paris, far from her family, friends, and Cousins Beach. She’s fully in her “finding herself” era, complete with a dramatic hair reveal. She’s finally stepped away from the messy Conrad vs. Jeremiah drama. But just before her 22nd birthday, guess who shows up in Paris? Conrad.
The two spend the day wandering through the city and reconnecting. Of course, Conrad does what he does best: silently pining for Belly (it’s his specialty at this point). Belly eventually invites him to her birthday party, and it’s there where everything finally comes to a head.
At the end of the night, Conrad fully opens up about his feelings. He admits he never stopped loving her, and puts it all out on the table. The two share a passionate love scene that screams “endgame.” After years of will-they-won’t-they, Belly chooses Conrad once and for all.
Meanwhile, the finale also ties up some other storylines: Jeremiah finds his purpose through his love of cooking, while Steven and Taylor begin a new chapter, preparing for a move to California together.
For fans of Jenny Han’s trilogy, the finale felt both familiar and different. In the books, Belly and Conrad reunite after her time studying in Spain, and the story closes with a heartfelt wedding. The show, however, swapped out Spain for Paris and cut the wedding entirely.
Adding fuel to the fire, Jenny Han included a handwritten note after the finale, saying: “Maybe we’ll meet again one summer in Cousins.” While nothing has been confirmed, fans are already theorizing about a bonus episode or even a surprise fourth season.
As expected, the internet had a lot of feelings:
So here’s the bottom line: Belly chooses herself first, then ultimately Conrad. Jeremiah got a bittersweet but hopeful ending. And while the book’s iconic wedding scene is missing, the finale still gave fans closure — and maybe even a little hope for more.
