Periyapalayam police arrested three persons who allegedly stole palm oil from a tanker that was transporting it from Royapuram to a manufacturing unit near Periyapalayam in Tiruvallur district.
On September 3, Sasikumar, 45, a lorry driver from Villupuram, transported about 4,500 litres of oil to the factory from the company’s premises in Royapuram.
When the factory employees checked the tanker, they found that water had been mixed with the oil. Further testing revealed that around 1,400 litres of oil was stolen. Following this, the company lodged a complaint.
Based on this, the police registered a case, and tracked down Sasikumar using his phone number. They said while proceeding to the factory, Sasikumar had stopped at a godown in Tiruvottiyur, where he drained the tanker of some of its oil, and replaced it with water.
Subsequently, the police seized 10 barrels of stolen oil, and arrested Sasikumar and his two accomplices — Sankaranarayanan, 42, and Rajkumar, 52, both from Kaladipet.
