Three Class X students sustain minor injuries as bench breaks in government school near Pollachi

Three Class X students sustained minor injuries after a bench collapsed inside a classroom at the Manonmaniam Government Girls Higher Secondary School in Kottur near Pollachi on Monday.

According to sources, the incident occurred shortly after the morning assembly. As the teacher entered the classroom, the students rose to greet her before taking their seats again. At that moment, one of the benches reportedly broke, causing three girls to fall and injure their legs.

Headmistress Ananthi and other teachers immediately rushed the injured students to the Kottur Government Hospital, where they received first aid. The students were later shifted to the Pollachi Government Hospital. Doctors said the injuries were minor and that the girls were under observation.

Kottur police have launched an inquiry into the incident. Preliminary findings indicated that inadequate maintenance of classroom furniture may have caused the bench to give way.
