Three men have been arrested for preventing a traffic head constable from performing his duty and assaulting him in Nungambakkam after he questioned them about a collision involving their car.
The incident occurred on Friday evening when the traffic head constable attached to the Nungambakkam Traffic Police Station was on duty near Loyola College. A car travelling that way hit a load vehicle that was parked there, leading to an argument between the load vehicle driver and the three occupants of the car.
When the traffic head constable went to the spot, the three men in the car allegedly argued with him, claimed that the load vehicle driver was at fault, hurled abuses, and attempted to attack him with a beer bottle. They also threatened him and tried to flee.
With the help of other police personnel, the head constable managed to restrain the three men, and handed them over to the Nungambakkam Police Station. Based on his complaint, the police arrested the trio — Arunkumar, 28 and Aneesh, 28 of Choolaimedu; and Lakshmanan, 30, of Kanniyakumari district.
