As many as three migrant labourers working in a granite quarry reportedly died after being struck by lightning near Deenabhandupuram of Meliyaputti mandal of Srikakulam district on Tuesday evening. According to police personnel, they were identified as Hemaraj (Rajasthan-25 years), Pintu (Madhya Pradesh-26 years) and Sravan Kumar (Bihar-40 years). All the three persons were admitted to Tekkali area hospital where they had succumbed to injuries.
According to locals, the quarry management was using lightning as an excuse whenever there was a blast in the granite quarry located in the region. Meliyaputti Mandal Revenue Officer Bade Paparao, Patapatnam Sub Inspector Madhusudana Rao visited the spot and inquired with the locals and representatives of management. They said that the family members of three deceased persons were informed about the incident. They said that the inquiry would continue over the allegations of the locals who raised the issue of the blast in the quarry premises.
