Three more govt. schools in Puttur taluk selected for upgradation into Karnataka Public School

The Department of School Education and Literacy (DSEL) has selected three more government higher primary schools in Puttur taluk for upgrading them into Karnataka Public School (KPS), said MLA for Puttur Ashok Kumar Rai.

The schools are in Uppinangady, Nettanige-Mudnur, and Bajattur, he said in a statement.

The taluk officials of the department had shortlisted eight schools for upgradation and sent the list to the government. Of them, three schools have been selected in the first phase.

Earlier, the department had selected the government higher primary schools at Kumbra and Keyyur. Hence, five schools will now become KPS in the taluk in the first phase, Mr. Rai said.

Mr. Rai said that he has submitted a request to the government to sanction a KPS school for each village.

The KPS is a model government-run school that provides education from pre-primary to II PU under one roof, with both English and Kannada medium options.

The government is giving priority to upgrade rural government schools to KPS to enable rural students to get english-medium education, he said.
