In an early morning tragedy on Wednesday (November 19, 2025), three trainee doctors from Thoothukudi Government Medical College and Hospital (TKGMCH) were killed and two others sustained serious injuries in a road accident on South Beach Road in Thoothukudi.
The police identified the deceased as S. Sarooban, 23, from Coimbatore, P. Rahul Jebastian, 23, from Pudukottai, and S. Mukilan, 23, from Tirupattur. The injured R. Kiruthikkukmar, 23, from Thoothukudi, and Saran, 23, from Tirupattur were part of the five-member group travelling in a sedan driven by Sarooban. The vehicle, which had reportedly been speeding, skidded on the rain-soaked road; the driver lost control of the wheel and rammed the vehicle into a tree while negotiating a turn near a barricade.
On being alerted, the Thoothukudi south police and fire and rescue services personnel reached the spot and rescued the occupants. Sarooban and Rahul Sebastian had died on the spot, while the others were rushed to TKGMCH for treatment, where Mukilan suffered a cardiac arrest and died within minutes of arrival. Kiruthikkukumar and Saran are undergoing treatment in the ICU.
The Thoothukudi south police have registered a case and investigations are on.
