The Tiruchi District Police have rolled out “Garudan” a mobile app to monitor the activities of history sheeters in the district.
The mobile application has been developed in association with Anna University, Tiruchi, to mount surveillance on over 850 history sheeters in the district involved in various types of crimes including murder, robbery, theft, and other illegal activities threatening public peace. History sheets have been opened against the anti-social elements.
The new app was developed on the advice of Tiruchi Superintendent of Police S. Selvanagarathinam. Police sources said history sheeters have been classified under A+, A, B and C categories. Those falling under the A+ category are those involved in grave offences, including murder, and other notorious elements whose activities are monitored by the Inspector of Police.
Complete profile of the history sheeters, including their place of stay, identification marks, cases against them and details of their co-accused are maintained by the police to keep a watch on their activities, said the sources.
The importance of the “Garudan” and how to use it was driven home to the field-level police officers and constables of Tiruchi district during a session held at the District Police Office in Tiruchi recently. Mr. Selvanagarathinam and Dr. Senthilkumar from the Department of Computer Science Engineering, Anna University, Tiruchi, spoke.
The sources said the field-level police officers and constables would install the app in their Android mobile phones. As part of checking, these officers and constables of the respective stations would go to the place of stay of the history sheeters and take their photos to confirm their presence and upload them on the app. The app could be monitored by senior officers in the district.
