A baby boy was run over by a private school van at Kavalur village near Vaniyambadi town in Tirupattur on Tuesday.
The deceased was identified as V. Dushyanth, son of F. Velu, a farmer, and V. Thilagavathi. Initial inquiry revealed that Thilagavathi was waiting in front of her house when her two daughters got into the school van. She was unaware that her one-year-old son had crawled his way to the carriageway.
Unaware of the baby on the carriageway, the driver took the vehicle and the baby was crushed under the wheels. Immediately, the driver abandoned the school van with students and fled the spot. Based on the alert, Kavalur police inspected the spot. The body was sent to Government Taluk Hospital in Vaniyambadi for postmortem. A case was registered. A probe is under way.
