Tom Cruise’s next with Alejandro González Iñárritu titled ‘Digger’; first look, release date out

Tom Cruise’s next film with Birdman (2015) and The Revenant (2014) director Alejandro González Iñárritu has been titled Digger. Described as a “comedy of catastrophic proportions”, the film will be released in theatres on October 2, 2026.

Backed by Warner Bros, Digger marks the first collaboration between Cruise and Iñárritu. A first look from the film was unveiled by the makers on Thursday, December 18, 2025. It features a man holding a shovel, seeming to prepare to start digging. The scene then shifts to a pier as seagulls are heard and the same man is seen walking on the railings with the shovel in his hand.

Cruise will be essaying the role of Digger Rockwell in the movie. Other details about the film’s plot are yet to be unveiled. Shot in the U.K. for six months, the film marks Iñárritu’s first English language film since The Revenant.

Digger also stars Sandra Huller, Emma D’Arcy, Riz Ahmed, John Goodman, Michael Stuhlbarg, Jesse Plemons, Sophie Wilde, Robert John Burke, and Burn Gorman. It has been written by Iñárritu has written the film along with Nicolas Giacobone, Alexander Dinelaris, and Sabina Berman. Giacobone and Dinelaris previously worked with Iñárritu on Birdman (2014).
