Traffic Police heightens surveillance in view of New Year celebrations

In the run-up to New Year’s celebrations, the Delhi Traffic police have intensified enforcement measures across the national capital to ensure road safety and law and order, an officer said on Sunday.

As part of special drives conducted on Saturday at multiple locations, the Delhi Traffic police issued 226 challans to motorists found driving under the influence of alcohol, 86 challans for dangerous driving, 2,194 for riding without helmets, 266 for triple riding, and 1,941 for wrong-side driving.

The officer said that with the help of cameras, 13,833 e-challans were issued for overspeeding and 5,394 for red-light jumping.

“As traffic volume and night-time movement are expected to increase significantly on December 31, senior officers have been asked to personally supervise enforcement activities. Additional force deployment has been ensured at vulnerable points, party hotspots, major intersections, and arterial roads,” said Additional DCP Monika Bhardwaj (Traffic).

Continuous night patrolling and monitoring are being carried out through traffic control rooms in coordination with PCR units, the DCP added.
