Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) president Vijay on Tuesday (October 28, 2025) said just as continuous rain had soaked and caused harvested paddy grains to sprout and go waste, sustained public anger against the DMK government was also growing and would eventually send it out of power.
In a statement, Mr. Vijay questioned why the State government had not acted swiftly when reports emerged that paddy cultivated through the hardwork of farmers had been drenched and damaged.
“Any government that genuinely cared for the interests of farmers would protect their livelihood and take steps to improve their economic condition. Instead, the DMK government failed to procure paddy on time, allowing the farmers’ hard-earned produce to sprout in the rain. It is painful that this situation is repeated year after year,” he said.
He also sought to know the measures taken by the government to prevent crop damage during the monsoon and arrangements made to safely store harvested paddy. With the Northeast monsoon still active, the State government should immediately take all precautionary steps on a war footing to prevent further damage to crops and harvested grains and to protect people from the impact of the rains, he demanded.
