Deputy Chief Minister Udhayanidhi Stalin chaired a review meeting with the officials of various departments here on Wednesday.
Speaking to the press, following the meeting, he said the review meeting was conducted to examine the progress of various programmes and schemes like ‘Ungaludan Stalin’, ‘Makkalaithedi Maruthuvam’, and others.
“Other essential civic facilities like drinking water supply, proper roads, were also studied to assess their functioning,” he noted.
Though they observed a slight slackness in few of the works that were reviewed, the concerned officials were instructed to speed up their functioning, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin added.
“As Tamil Nadu will be hosting the World Cup Junior Hockey tournament towards the end of November, 29 matches are to take place in Madurai,” he informed.
As a hockey turf for that purpose was under construction, they also inspected the ongoing works.
In addition, he said, they also inspected other works like sports hostel, gallery and swimming pool.
Responding to a question on why other State sports players were participating in the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Trophy sports event, he said, only those players who were studying in the educational institutions in Tamil Nadu were allowed to play in the games.
He also inspected the progress of the construction of a diving –equipped swimming pool at the Madurai District Sports Stadium, a project valued at ₹12.50 crore, and reviewed the work with officials.
Following this, he visited the newly constructed para sports hall, built at a cost of ₹1 crore, on the same campus.
During another event at Thenur, Mr. Udhayanidhi Stalin, distributed orders for free house patta orders to 195 beneficiaries. Next to that, he inspected the houses that were being built under Kalaignar Kanavu Illam scheme.
Minister for Commercial Taxes and Registration P. Moorthy, Minister for Information Technology and Digital Services Palanivel Thiaga Rajan, Theni MP Thanga Tamil Selvan, District Collector K.J. Praveen Kumar, and others were present during the events.
