An undertrial escaped from Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital on Wednesday night even as he was undergoing treatment for stomach pain.
Police said Muthuselvan, 34, of Kallidaikurichi in the district was arrested at Kovilpatti in Thoothukudi district last week after he behaved in unruly manner with the traffic police and a woman. He was lodged in Palayamkottai Central Prison.
On Tuesday, when he complained of stomach pain Muthuselvan was admitted to Tirunelveli Medical College Hospital for treatment with police escort.
As he did not return to the ward after going to the toilet on Wednesday night, the High Ground Police registered a complaint.
The hunt is on to nab Muthuselvan.
