Union Minister of Coal G. Kishan Reddy has unveiled a statue of Pandit Deendayal Upadhyaya in Vijayawada as the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) commemorated 60 years of the Integral Humanism philosophy, first articulated at the Jana Sangh’s historic national conference held in the city in 1965.
The event was attended by BJP national general secretary (organisation) B.L. Santhosh, who inaugurated a photo exhibition showcasing rare visuals from the 1965 Jana Sangh National Conference. BJP Andhra Pradesh State president P.V.N. Madhav presided over the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Mr. Reddy described Vijayawada as a “sacred place” in India’s ideological history and stated that Deendayal Upadhyaya’s philosophy of Integral Humanism offered a civilisational alternative to Western ideologies, such as capitalism and communism. He said Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s governance over the past decade reflected these principles in action, providing lasting solutions to national challenges.
The programme coincided with the birth anniversary of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, observed as Parakram Diwas. Mr. Reddy said it was a matter of pride to revisit the very venue where Integral Humanism was presented as a practical socio-political doctrine six decades ago.
Speaking earlier, Mr. Madhav recalled the evolution of Integral Humanism from discussions within the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh to its formal adoption by the Jana Sangh. He said the Vajpayee and Modi governments had worked to translate Deendayal Upadhyaya’s ideals into policy and governance.
Renowned writer and scholar Mudigonda Shivaprasad shared personal recollections of Deendayal Upadhyaya, highlighting his simplicity, compassion, and ideological clarity.
A commemorative souvenir marking the 12th Jana Sangh National Conference of 1965 and a special 60th anniversary edition of Jagruti magazine were also unveiled. Several Union and State Ministers, MPs, MLAs, and senior BJP leaders attended the event.
